Rally Attracts Vintage Co-driver
1981 Rally National Champion, R.Dale
Kraushaar to Co-drive in 1967 Ford Cortina
May 4, 2010 –
Fountain Hills, AZ --
Challenge Driving Events International of Fountain Hills, Arizona announced
today that R.Dale Kraushaar will once again don his helmet and racing suit to
participate in the Oregon Trail Rally as co-driver for Australian Glenn Wallace
in his 1967 Ford Cortina GT MkII.
The Oregon Trail Rally, the fourth round in Rally
America's National Championship will run May 14 - 16 in and
around Portland, Oregon.
This rally is run at top speeds on closed forest roads just outside the city and
attracts top competitors from across North America including, Ken Block, Travis
Pastrana, and Antoine L'Estage, the current series leader and North American
Champion. More than 60 cars are entered in this three-day competition that
includes six "Superspecial" stages at Portland International Raceway attracting
an estimated 3,000 spectators.
For the past 15 years Kraushaar has concentrated on
adventure rally, taking him across the Arctic Circle and on the infamous ice
highways of the Northwest Territories.
It was the early 80's when R.Dale last rode “hot seat” in an Oregon Trail Rally,
that time for New Zealander, Rod Millen.
The Millen/Kraushaar combination won two National Championships before
Kraushaar retired from Performance Rally in 1985.
Glenn Wallace enticed Kraushaar to come out of retirement
two years ago to co-drive for him in an event on the Olympic Peninsula.
“He needed a vintage co-driver for his vintage car” said Kraushaar “and
you don’t get much more vintage than me.”
At 66 years old Kraushaar is one of the oldest competitors in rally.
Kraushaar lived in Oregon
for 58 years before moving to Fountain
Hills, Arizona in 2002,
and is looking forward to returning to his “home town” and its cooler weather.
In April, Kraushaar co-drove the Pace Car (Car 0) at the
Olympus International Rally with Lee Sorenson
of Sacramento,
CA. who will be back at the wheel of the Pace Car for the Oregon Trail Rally.
