2009 Grand Canyon Hike
Equipment List
Hat. What’s important is a wide brim.
Hiking shorts and shirt. Light weight quick drying material. SPF 30 or greater
Boots.
Trekking poles. They may feel a little dorky but they really do work. Target has them for $20 each.
Pack with 2 liter bladder. Costco has one for $21.
Extra liter of water. Attaches to back of pack. Makes total 3 liters. Also nice for filling bladder along the trail.
Vaseline. Enclose in plastic bag, it will turn to liquid on canyon floor.
Sun Block. SPF 50 or greater. Don’t be foolish, you’ll be exposed to the sun like no other time in your life.
Sun Glasses.
Space Blanket.
First Aid Kit.
Comb. For removing cactus.
Identification
Money. The little store at the Ranch has beer and pop and geedunk.
Pliers/knife.
Whistle. For emergencies
Moleskin. Just in case you get blisters.
Gloves. To protect your hands if using the trekking poles
Toilet Paper.
Snacks. Don’t bring anything that will melt at 100 degrees.
GPS.
Trail maps.
Clean dry underclothes and socks.
Reading Glasses.
Lip Chap.
Bandana/Handkerchief
Ear plugs.
